SHOCKING: CID Constable Shoots 3rd year MBBS Girlfriend, Commits Suicide

Chennai: In a shocking incident reported from the Villuppuram district of Tamil Nadu; a police constable, attached to the Security Branch the Crime Investigation Department (CID), shot his MBBS pursuing girlfriend to death on her birthday and later committed suicide.

The unfortunate incident happened on 10th October when the third-year MBBS student identified as one Saraswathi (23) was shot twice in the chest by her boyfriend, an armed reserve constable of the Vellore battalion, Karthivel (30), whom she was soon going to marry.

The deceased couple met on Facebook over 4 years ago and came into a relationship. After the medico's parents gave their consent for their marriage, the cop used to visit her at her residence, quotes UNI.

The preliminary investigations revealed that the MBBS student had come to her native village to celebrate her birthday when her boyfriend visited her in the evening with presents.

Soon after celebrating her birthday late night that day, a heated argument broke out between the two regarding the medico's friendship with some of her male classmates whom the cop had an issue with.

According to one report in The New Indian Express, the row was about the medico's classmate about whom the couple had previously fought, called to wish on her birthday.

Following the intense argument, the cop shot the medico with his pistol and then committed suicide. "Around 2am on Wednesday, Karthivel took his service pistol and shot at Saraswathi twice. He committed suicide by firing into forehead with the same pistol," a senior police officer investigating the case, confirmed to TOI.

Immediately, after hearing the gunshots, the MBBS student's father rushed to the room and discovered the deceased couple lying in a pool of blood.

"At midnight we celebrated her birthday happily and they were talking alone in the room. Hearing the gunshots I rushed to the room and found them lying dead in a pool of blood," the father lamented.

The aggrieved father said that her MBBS daughter had dreamt of being a doctor since childhood and wanted to serve the poor.

The Kanjanur police have sent the bodies of the two to the Government Villupuram Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

The Villupuram police are currently investigating the case. However, it is not sure yet if the cop had acted on impulse or if it was a case of premeditated murder.
