Security to be upped at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences : Junior Doctors Association

Hassan: Security seems to the watchword for doctors working in the emergency / casualty wards of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) after the recent attack on junior doctors at the institute.

Hosting a press meet on Wednesday, the Junior doctor’s association at the institute came out vociferously against the public’s attack on junior doctors on the night of December 31st, and demanded strict action against those who assaulted.

YM Jeevan, one of the assaulted recalling the incident said that while some assaulted him others chased women junior doctors along the hospital corridors

“The incident has disturbed all of us. The police have arrested five of the accused, but all of them have already been released on bail,” he said.

President of the association, Dr. Manjunath said, “We never expected this kind of behaviour from the public. The attackers got bail within hours of the arrest. This conveys a wrong message that such attackers can get away easily. We want strict laws so that such attacks are avoided in future.”

The doctors revealed that three senior doctors were on duty that fateful night however were working in different wards. “A senior doctor had just gone out of the emergency section when the mob entered and attacked the junior doctors,” said Dr. Jeevan.
