SC Cancels MBBS admissions of two Kerala Medical Colleges
New Delhi: Through a recent judgment, the Supreme Court has canceled the admissions to two self-financing medical colleges in Kerala- the DM Institute of Medical Sciences, Wayanad, and Mount Zion Medical College, Pathanamthitta. The decision came in response to a petition filed by the Medical Council of India,
The decision came in response to a petition filed by the Medical Council of India, challenging the decision of the state high court on the permission issue. It is reported that the high court giving relief to the said colleges allowed them to take admissions, despite MCI's denial.
Challenging the decision, MCI stated in court that while the colleges were earlier given instructions to bresolve the inadequacies, they did not do so, and hence should not be given approval. In response, the SC has now struck down the admissions. Deccan Herald notes that they have, however, been allowed to submit a petition challenging the decision considering the future of students, which is likely to be taken up on Friday.
Judgement soon to follow....
