Saharanpur Medical College: 24 MBBS students suspended for drinking, throwing liquor bottles at Anti-Ragging squad
Saharanpur: 24 MBBS students associated with Saharanpur-based Shaikh-Ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Medical College has been suspended for three months after they were found drinking alcohol and partying inside the hostel campus without permission. The drunk medicos further created a nuisance by harassing the freshers in the name of ragging and also threw liquor-bottles at the members of Anti-Ragging squad, who stepped in to inquire the matter.
The incident took place on September 14 (Saturday) when MBBS students of 2016 and 2017 batch came together to celebrate without seeking official permission. Around 50 MBBS students of 2017 batch were celebrating Birthday of a fellow medico while a few medical students of 2016 batch had cleared their supplementary papers and was busy enjoying. The two batches came together and got drunk during the party and were completely out of control.
Thereafter, the medicos headed towards the fresher's hostel and started banging their doors aloud. The drunk medicos created a ruckus by yelling at them to unlock the doors. However, the junior medical students right away dialled the Anti-Ragging squad and informed about the chaos. As per the junior students, none of them was assaulted anyway.

The squad rushed at the spot and controlled the situation. However, during the course, a few of the aggressive MBBS students threw empty liquor bottles at the squad members.
Soon after an inquiry was conducted by the disciplinary committee. 50 medical students from 2017 batch and 46 of them from 2016 batch were identified. The committee submitted its report, based on this, the medical college administration imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on all the 96 MBBS students of the two batches, while, 24 medical students have been suspended for three months from the college hostel and even restricted from attending classes.
A month ago, the medical college was in controversy as six MBBS students had been suspended for three months for ragging the first-year medical students.

After the recent ruckus, the Principal of the college Dr Arvind Tripathi has strictly directed the wardens of 2016 and 2017 batch hostels not to allow any of the suspended students inside the hostels for the said period of time. The medical college's junior hostel wing is well-guarded with bouncers at the entrance, besides 4 guards, he added.
"Junior hostel wing is under constant vigil by the anti-ragging squad. And, even on Saturday night, no security was breached. Instead, for the next two days, we requested police for regular patrolling of the area," Tripathi told TOI.
As per a report by a local daily, Patrika, Dr Tripathi has assured the junior medical students that there is nothing to worry and stringent action will be taken by the administration against those medical students who try to rag any of the medicos.
