RIMS Adilabad renewal recognition exercise underway
The June inspection by the MCI that spoke of faculty paucity is what has led the RIMS authorities and the health department to take a decision on plum packages.
Hyderabad: It's a tense situation for the administration of RIMS (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences) Adilabad as it awaits crucial MCI (Medical Council of India) re-inspection for the renewal of recognition to the medical college. The major hurdle that stands in the way of RIMS authorities is faculty compliance which shall go a long way in earning it renewed recognition.
Medical dialogues team had recently reported that the Medical Council of India Executive committee had denied MBBS recognition to the medical college in the light of deficiencies the college. As per MCI report, RIMS had a faculty deficiency of 35.84% as well as resident doctor deficiency of more than 85%. The council has given the college one month time to correct its deficiencies

RIMS faces an uphill task in settling differences in the salary packages of those already employed and those it plans to recruit. The attractive packages being offered to future recruits as a means of allurement to meet up with MCI compliance is already raising questions in the minds of the 50 already employed faculty, at lower wages, than those being called in. The salary difference between the employed and those to be recruited is about 50%.
In the fresh recruitment category, RIMS is offering a consolidated sum of Rs 1.90 lakh for Professor, Rs 1.50 lakh for Associate Professor, Rs 1.25 lakh for Assistant Professor and Rs 55,000 for Tutors. This in comparison to the present faculty which is drawing a scale of Rs 1 lakh for Professor, Rs 90,000 for Associate Professor, Rs 75,000 for Assistant Professor and Rs 40,000 for Tutor. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Adilabad is in the midst of renewal recognition inspection by the Medical Council of India.
With a disparity so stark, it was brought to the notice of District Collector D Divya, who furthered the difference to the Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Shanti Kumari, to seek her response.
RIMS semi-autonomous in nature is encouraging contract recruitments, so that Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors from neighbouring states particularly Maharashtra find it attractive enough to want to join teaching jobs. It has had problems with senior doctors from Hyderabad joining the medical college in remote Adilabad, primarily for family driven reasons.
The pay scales decided upon for the new recruitments at RIMS are at par with the NIMS packages according to Dr Ashok, RIMS Director. The working faculty of RIMS is of the view that GO 52 which makes salary packages for new recruitments at RIMS at par with NIMS, should also be made applicable to them.
"We do not want to delay the recruitment so that MCI re-inspection could take place at the earliest. The present staff has pinned its hopes on government and RIMS administration to come to our rescue," a faculty member told Hans India.
Students pursuing M.B.B.S at RIMS are anxious about their future as any delay could result in losing MCI recognition.
