Punjab: Dentist bags scholarship of more than Rs 1 crore
Jalandhar: Dr Satpal Singh Sandhu, Professor and HOD, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Ferozepur, Punjab is reported to have received scholarship of over Rs 1 crore for his Phd research project in the UK.
The professor has been selected as a sponsored candidate to PhD program (Advanced Quantitative Methods in Social Science and Health) at the University of Bristol in UK. His entire research will be funded the UK Research Council through its Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarship award commencing next month reports the Tribune. The award will include university fee, free accommodation, travel expenses to attend international conferences and also enhanced stipend to bear his living and other routine expenses
The doctor's research will include detailed analysis of longitudinal craniofacial growth data collected across the United States of America and Canada during the 20th centuries in order to enhance the understanding of craniofacial growth process.
The scholarship came after long rounds of grueling interviews, remarked the doctor. Born to farmer parents in Shalla Pur Bet, in Kapurthala, Dr Sandhu completed his BDS and MDS from Manipal and has been working in Punjab since then.
