Chandigarh: Dr Deepika Kainth, a Nawanshahr-based medico has emerged as the first ranked in the entrance examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in the stream of Doctorate of Medicine (DM) Neonatology.

Last year, on September 25, she was conferred with the 'Best Postgraduate Student Award 2017' in Paediatrics, during the 63rd Foundation Day Celebrations of the AIIMS New Delhi.
She gives utmost credit for her career to her father, Dr SR Kainth, a paediatrician in Nawanshahr. "Following the footprints of my father, I decided to become a paediatrician," she stated adding that that having her father perform his job with utmost care while dealing infants, kids and children, she grew up learning various things about doctors and their profession.
When asked as to what motivates her to do her best, she startlingly replied that her biggest motivation is the achievers' name board placed at the AIIMS that displays the present and past achievers' name.
"I always wanted my name at the top of the achiever board", she told Tribune.
