Bihar: The death of a 24-year-old M Pharma student attached to the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) sparked tension in the premises after the fellow students to held a protest by shouting "Go Back, Go Back"- slogans and demanding the dismissal of the institute's director.

As per recent media accounts, the case related a student from NIPER who was suffering from Chikungunya from the past few months. On December 22 his condition deteriorated and he was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) from a private hospital at Hajipur. However, it is alleged that the patient was not granted leave for his proper treatment by the institute's officials.

Though the student was taken to the hospital by fellow students, he eventually passed away.

The incident triggered the students while the deceased's kin, who had arrived from Telangana on receiving the news filed an FIR against Director, academic controller, and head of the department of pharma alleging negligence, that resulted in the student's death.

"The institute's authorities didn't pay any heed to their demand for medical assistance to the sick student," a student of the institute as saying was quoted by

Some of the students also created a scene after the student's death. "It was his friends and colleagues who got him admitted to the private hospital in Hajipur after his condition worsened. However, the institute did not pay any attention to their demand for medical attention," he further added.
