The Kashmir Crime Branch's spokesman stated that the accused provided MBBS admission letters along with air tickets to five candidates, but after reaching China they were made to stay in the hostel of "Jinan University" and had to pay for that out of their own pocket.

Srinagar: A Kolkata-based man has been booked for cheating five MBBS students while promising them MBBS admission in medical colleges in China.

The news agency UNI reports that the Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has registered a case against a Kolkata resident for cheating a Srinagar based consultancy. A CBK spokesman informed recently that a complaint was received from one Mohammed Hussain, proprietor of M/S Xeal Education Services, located at Baghat Chowk.

In his complaint, Hussain said that he was in a business relationship with Subashish Baumik of Kolkata, who helped him to place students in various Universities in China for pursuing MBBS Course.

The complainant alleged that he paid Rs 14 lakhs to Baumik for providing admission in MBBS course in respect of five candidates in "Weifang Medical University" China. However, neither the admission has been made in the said university nor the money has been returned to him.

The spokesman said that preliminary verification was initiated on the receipt of this complaint. During the course of enquiry it came to fore that M/S Xeal Education Services Baghat Srinagar has taken the amount of Rs 14 lakhs from five students at the rate of Rs 2.80 lac per student for arranging their admission in MBBS courses in Weifang Medical University through Mr Baumik who is running a business under the name and style of M/S AB Global, and transferred Rs 14 lacs in the Bank account of AB Global maintained and operated by the accused.

The Kashmir Crime Branch's spokesman stated that the accused provided admission letters along with air tickets to five candidates, but after reaching China they were made to stay in the hostel of "Jinan University" and had to pay for that out of their own pocket.

They were not provided admission in any University. The complainant returned the money so received from the students. However, Baumik has not returned the money to the complainant and is not responding to his requests, the spokesman said.

During further enquiry it has come to fore that Baumik has cheated the complainant and the candidates on the pretext of providing admission in MBBS Course in Weifang Medical University China to 5 candidates and grabbed the amount of Rs 14 lakhs in a fraudulent and dishonest manner, the spokesman said.
