Professor Geeta K Vemuganti conferred with AAO Senior Achievement Award
Hyderabad: The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Senior Achievement Award for the year has gone to Professor Geeta K Vemuganti, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH).
Professor Vemuganti’s name along with her photograph will be published in the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2017 Awards booklet.
The professor’s work includes efforts to establish and expand Ophthalmic Pathology as a subspecialty in the field of surgical pathology in India. She is also an initiator of the first fellowship program of Post-graduate Diploma Certificate course in Ocular Pathology, under the aegis of Indian College of Pathologists.
This award is symbolic of her commitment to the advancement of the profession and positively impacting eye health of those affected.
Professor Geeta achieved this feet by managing to accrue the 30 points required to become a recipient for the honour. Dr Geeta earned these laurels through participation in the annual meeting (e.g. as a course instructor or scientific poster, paper or video presenter), by supporting advocacy efforts or by serving the Academy as a councillor, committee member, representative.
Having earned her basic medical degree at the JLN Medical College, Ajmer, she completing her MD in Pathology at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences. She also possesses an advanced training in ocular pathology from Doheny Eye Institute, Los Angeles, USA.
She has published 160 papers in journals of international repute with a Citation Index of 1751 and H Index of 22 (Citation Gadget).
She has been a guide to several doctoral students in both basic and applied research projects reports Hans India.
