Private Practice: Government Dental College Principal caught on videotape, Video goes VIRAL
“The clinic recorded in the video belongs to my brother who is orthopaedic. I was at the place and someone came for consultation regarding some complications. I checked him as I’m also a doctor.”-- Dr Reyaz Farooq, Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar
Srinagar: Violating a no private practice norm, a government doctor, Dr Reyaz Farooq, who is currently heading the Government Dental College, Srinagar as Principal, has been caught in controversy for allegedly indulging in private practice while treating a patient in “his” clinic.
A video of the same has reportedly gone viral showing Dr Farooq in a clinic and writing prescriptions for a patient.
Tribune reports that in the video, a patient is heard saying, “This is the clinic of a doctor, who happens to be the Principal of Government Dental College, Srinagar, and is practising in private.”
However, the doctor has clearly denied the allegations stating that the video was recorded to just to malign his image.
“The clinic recorded in the video belongs to my brother who is orthopaedic. I was at the place and someone came for consultation regarding some complications. I checked him as I’m also a doctor,” Dr Farooq justified speaking to the Tribune.
This is not the first instance of a doctor being caught engaging in private practice in the state. In January this year, the Jammu and Kashmir Government took stringent action against four medical professionals after they were found practising privately.
Medical Dialogues had reported about the case, where the removal of three senior doctors and the Director SKIMS Dr AG Ahanger, from their posts, was ordered following a sting operation carried out by a TV Channel.
Thereafter, the resentment of the doctors attached to the institute surfaced in the form of an indefinite strike. The RDA also come in support of the doctors saying that the government removed Dr Ahangar based on a few media reports without actually conducting an investigation into the actual facts of the case.
