PGI Chandigarh goes digital to support organ donation
Punjab: PGI Chandigarh has launched the website and logo of the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO).
ROTTO will provide the users with basic clinical information about organ donation-the process in the starting phase. Later, it is scheduled to add a comprehensive database of potential organ donors from different hospitals in the region.
ROTTO, PGI has recently organised a workshop which drew participation from six other hospitals in the state. There are neighboring destinations in the region which are expected to participate in the initiative including Punjab, Haryana, HP, J&K, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
As reported by HT, the event was organised under the aegis of National Organ Transplant Programme to discuss ways to increase the deceased donation rate and help overcome organ shortage. Nodal officer Vipin Koushal said under this programme, PGIMER will co-ordinate with hospitals across Chandigarh and the six neighbouring states including Punjab, Haryana, HP, J&K, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
In separate news, PGI Chandigarh is also set to start a women empowerment programme to spread awareness about endocrine diseases in women.
Endocrinology department head Dr Anil Bhansali has implied that with a prevailing ratio of 2:1, , endocrine disorders are much more prevalent in women. When asked about the reason for this, he said endocrine disorders are autoimmune in nature. It is an autoimmune disorder which is more common in women. There are two X-chromosomes in women which makes them more venerable to autoimmune disorders like thyroid, diabetes, premature ovarian failure and others.”
