    PG seats at SKIMS Medical College increased by MCI

    PG seats at SKIMS Medical College increased by MCI

    Srinagar: The Medical Council of India(MCI), has decided to increase the number of PG seats in the various SKIMS colleges. In its letter dated 28-03-2017, the Council has ordered that the total PG seats in SKIMS medical college should be 42. These seats are in addition to the 28 seats already increased at GMC Srinagar.


    20 more seats have been granted to SKIMS Soura and SKIMS Medical College in OBG, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia and Radio diagnosis. While GMC Srinagar has got 9 more seats and GMC Jammu 13. The letter further states that in SKIMS Soura and its Medical College, the total number of existing seats for MD (Aneasthesia) were which have now risen to 20. Six seats have been enhanced by the MCI. The total number of existing seats for MD (Radio diagnosis) were 7 earlier, however the available number now is 16. The increase has been sanctioned by the apex education regulator.


    “The total number of existing seats for MS (Orthopedics) was 2 while the seats available now are 5. The total of 03 seats was enhanced by the MCI,” the letter reveals, adding that the total number of existing seats for MS (Ophthalmology) were 5, while the seats available now are 6; 1 seat having been enhanced by the MCI.


    The letter reads that total number of existing seats for MS (Obst and Gynae) at 2, while the seats available now are 3. 1 having been increased by the MCI.


    Meanwhile, in GMC Srinagar the total number of seats existing for MD (Pediatrics) was 8. The number has been raised to 13. 5 seats were enhanced by MCI today.


    The letter further reads that the total number of seats existing for MS (Surgery) was 13 while the 17 seats are available now .


    The letters further stated that for GMC Jammu the total of 13 seats were enhanced by MCI today including 02 for MD (DVL), 02 for MD (Pediatrics), 03 for MS (Surgery), 03 for MS (ENT), 03 for MS (OBG).


    The total enhancement of PG seats by MCI this year to the tune of 70 seats has been welcomed by all PG aspirants in particular and medicos in general.


    “It will definitely boost the Medical care of specialties,” they said.


    The group reported to the office of Prof Reyaz Untoo and appreciated his efforts.


    The PG aspirants said that the Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina seriously pursued the case personally and also deputed the Registrar Academics, Dr Qayoom to Delhi to resubmit the proposal for enhancement of the PG Seats in SKIMS Soura and SKIMS Medical College Bemina who camped there for many days.GMC Jammu


    Meanwhile, the officials said that though the recommended increase had been sent earlier it had for some reason come through lately for the proposal had been sent earlier but due to some reasons had been sanctioned for GMC Kashmir alone. However, the increase for SKIMS and GMC Jammu had taken place of late.


    “We approached the higher authorities and issue was brought to media as well to draw attention towards the issue,” the statement issued read, reports the Kashmir Monitor.
