PG Diploma Conversion: Gujarat gets 143 PG medical seats in 8 medical colleges
Ahmedabad: Gujarat PG medical Degree pool has received a major boost as the Medical Council of India. MCI has converted a total of 143 Post-Graduate (PG) Diploma seats of the state to PG medical Degree.
With this approval, the state's current pool of 1,843 degree seats in PG medical courses has increased to a total of 1986.
Following the announcement by the Medical Council of India Board of Governors (MCI BoG) with regard to increasing of seats in PG degree courses in lieu of surrender or concerned diploma seats, the majority of the states rushed at the opportunity to get additional PG degree seats.

Gujarat had applied for the conversion of 168 PG Diploma seats. With the MCI nod, the state has got 143 of the applied seats converted at 8 medical colleges including:
- BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad
- CU Shah Medical College
- Government Medical College, Bhavnagar
- Government Medical College, Surat
- Pramukhswami Medical College, Karamsad
- B.K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Centre
- Medical College, Baroda
- Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad
The highest number of seats converted is 12 at BJ Medical College in Ophthalmology Diploma. Following this, 8 Obstetrics & Gynaecology Diploma seats in Government Medical College, Surat have been switched to PG medical degree.
Smt Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad; has got the maximum number of 34 PG Diploma seats converted by MCI.
