
Patna : Medical Students of Patna Medical College have gone on a strike after the police allegedly lathicharged and arrested some of their colleagues during a post graduate counselling sessions.
The incident happened on 22nd May, 2017 at the IAS Bhawan, the venue for counselling. The reason for the police attack seems to bean altercation the students had with officials present on the issue of reservation .
Dr Vinay, a member of the Working Committee, Junior Doctor’s Association, Patna Medical College informed the Medical Dialogues team that the altercation took on an ugly turn, when the police entered the premises and lathicharged the students brutally and arrested 5 of them. He further informed that around 20 students have suffered injuries due to lathicharge, with three having severe head injuries

The students have in a written communication to the Principal Patna Medical University raised the following demands:

- Immediate release of students taken into forceful custody by the police
- Withdrawal of the fake FIR registered by them
- Immediate suspension of officials and the police who got into an argument with the students and the police officials who mercilessly beat them up
- A judicial inquiry into the incident
With no response from the authorities,the students have gone on a day’s strike initially adding that if their demands are overlooked, they shall continue to their protest. The students also organized a candle march on 23rd May, 2017.
