Panun Kashmir resent denial of reserved medical seats to Kashmiri migrants in Himachal
Kangra: Panun Kashmir, a front line organisation of Kashmiri Pandits, on Saturday expressed strong resentment against the Himachal Pradesh government for denying admissions to the Kashmiri migrant students violating the directions of the Medical Council of India (MCI).

In a statement here, Panun Kashmir Secretary Bihari Lal Kaul said that the Organisation under the leadership of its Chairman Dr Ajay Chrungoo in an urgently-called meeting of its executive council members, took strong exception to the denial of reserved seats to the six different government medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh violating the directives of MCI.

Kaul said that the denial of admission to the wards of Kashmiri Hindu Migrants is the violation of the very directives of MCI, which in clear terms has issued orders/directives to various medical institutions in the country including Himachal Pradesh to reserve and grant one per cent of their seats to such wards. Denial of admission to them as per the MCI directives is a gross violation of the policy and needs to be rectified immediately.

He said that in Himachal, four seats two each were earlier reserved in IGMC and TMC for the wards of Kashmiri migrants and with the passing time these were reduced to only one in Tanda medical college only where as there should have been at least one seat each reserved for such students in all the six medical colleges.

Kaul said that Panun Kashmir urges upon the Himachal Pradesh government to immediately implement the directives of MCI in its true letter and spirit.

Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare R D Dhiman did not pick up the phone despite frantic efforts for his comments, However, when contacted Medical Education Director Dr Ravi Sharma told UNI that his office had not received any such notification from MCI till the prospectus review committee complied the prospectus for the admission to the six medical colleges of the state for the academic year 2019-20.
