Outsiders under Puducherry quota, JIPMER asked to reissue provisional admission list

Written by Shagufta Perween Perween Published On 26 Jun 2019 7:12 AM  |  Updated On 23 Dec 2022 8:40 AM
It was revealed that 29 out of 62 candidates who were shortlisted by JIPMER under the state quota did not appear in NEET examination as the native of the territory.

Puducherry: The students-parents-teachers' association has urged the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) authorities to revise and reissue the list of candidates shortlisted for provisional admission in MBBS course for the academic year 2019-20.

This forum put forward their contentions to the JIPMER after coming across the list of candidates who were shortlisted for provisional admission and the list of natives of Puducherry who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination. When both the lists were compared, it was revealed that 29 out of 62 candidates who were shortlisted under the state quota did not appear in NEET examination as the native of the territory.

After finding the missing names of the students, the association had submitted a detailed memorandum to the JIPMER Director Dr Aggarwal and to the President and Prime Minister of India.

It was pointed out that many candidates from other states found a place in the quota list of 55 for MBBS such as UR, OBC, SC, ST under various pretexts.

It was observed that students who wrote their NEET in Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Northern states had found a place in the quota list in Puducherry, reports the UNI.

It was doubted that the students from other stated placed in under Puducherry residents' quota list had gathered dual nativity.

The President students-parents-teachers' association Y Bala alias Balasubramanian told the TOI, "We suspect that these candidates might have illegally obtained dual nativity – one to apply for admission in Jipmer as Puducherry residents and the other to take Neet from their hometowns to seek admission in colleges in their respective states."

He asked the modification of the Puducherry quota (MBBS) list corrected on the basis of their birth certificate, ration card, Voter ID card, and Aadhaar card.

He further demanded that the documents of the students, as well as their parents, should be verified at the time of counseling.
