Only Provisional nod to Sri Muthukumaran Medical College nod for 150 MBBS seats Counselling
The court in the following order further made it clear that the MBBS seats that have been made available for counselling based on the court decision are only provisional and subject to the final orders of the court
Confirmation to this effect is given by Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University through a recent notification. The notification reads;
"The Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R University hereby grants Continuance of Provisional Affiliation Order for conducting MBBS Degree course for the Academic year 2019-2020 to Sri Muthukumaran Medical College and Research Institute Chikkarayapuram near Mangadu, Chennai 600 069 after getting the Undertaking from the Chairperson of the Trust that runs the College that they will rectify the defects as pointed out by the inspection team within a period of 3 (three) months from 19.08.2019, based on the order of the Hon'ble High Court dated 10.08.2019 W.P No.23726 of 2019."
The Madras High Court's directed to grant conditional recognition to the college after the chairperson of Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust, Gomathi Ammal had filed a petition before Justice G Jayachandran, regarding its affiliation being withheld by the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, thereby hindering the MBBS college's inclusion in the seat matrix.
The medical college's affiliation was put on hold by the state university citing serious infrastructural flaws and inadequate patients in its teaching hospital. Examining the report submitted by the inspection committee, the university did not grant permission to the medical college and it was not included in the list of eligible MBBS college to admit candidates for the academic year 2019-20.
