Only Provisional nod to Sri Muthukumaran Medical College nod for 150 MBBS seats Counselling
Chennai: In a relief, Sri Muthukumaran Medical College and Research Institute recently got the HC approval for continuing MBBS course for the academic session 2019-20 as the court directed Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University to grant a provisional affiliation to the medical college.
The court in the following order further made it clear that the MBBS seats that have been made available for counselling based on the court decision are only provisional and subject to the final orders of the court
Confirmation to this effect is given by Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University through a recent notification. The notification reads;
The Madras High Court's directed to grant conditional recognition to the college after the chairperson of Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust, Gomathi Ammal had filed a petition before Justice G Jayachandran, regarding its affiliation being withheld by the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, thereby hindering the MBBS college's inclusion in the seat matrix.
The medical college's affiliation was put on hold by the state university citing serious infrastructural flaws and inadequate patients in its teaching hospital. Examining the report submitted by the inspection committee, the university did not grant permission to the medical college and it was not included in the list of eligible MBBS college to admit candidates for the academic year 2019-20.

However, the University's recent notification is a reason for the medical college to rejoice. With the development, the Directorate of Medical Education, Selection Committee has apprised the tentative counselling schedule for admission to MBBS course under government and management quota seats.
As per a recent media report by The New Indian Express, the counselling will be conducted today on Tuesday (27 August 2019) for admission of candidates for MBBS courses at the Sri Muthukumaran Medical College and Research Institute, at the Government Multi Super-Speciality Hospital, Omandurar Estate.

"Let the counselling happen on August 27 as scheduled. Provisional selection andadmission of any student in Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai, would be subject to the further orders of this court. It is also made clear that the authorities will publish on the official website of the Selection Committee, Director of Medical Education, that provision selection and admission of any student, is at the risk of the student and subject to further orders of this court, in the instant writ appeal."
