Cuttack: Tensions escalated on the SCB Medical College and Hospital premises on Friday, following a confrontation between a doctor and the police over the issue of illegal parking of conveyance on the premises of the hospital.

Additional IIC, Mangalabag police station Abhimanyu Das on observing this asked the driver to remove the vehicle. The driver instead of conceding and removing the vehicle, got into a fight with the police officer. Meanwhile, Dr Kar intervened and misbehaved with Das. The confrontation unfortunately took an ugly turn, forcing Das to file an FIR regarding the incident. with Mangalabag police following which a case was registered against Dr Kar.

Medical Students staged a dharna on the premises of the college demanding an apology from Police officer Das and threatened to go on strike , if not rendered.

A fact finding team of Odisha Police Association (OPA) reached Mangalabag police station to carry out an inquiry into the incident..
OPA Secretary, Jyoti Ranjan Samantary however, said such reactions were not expected from doctors and students of SCB Medical College and Hospital as the police were performing their duty for betterment of the hospital. ‘‘An impartial investigation into the incident will be conducted and action initiated as per law against the person found guilty,’’ told Samantaray to the Indian Express.
