Odisha: DMLT, DMRT Students hold protest over high unemployment rate
Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of Diploma students in medical laboratory technology and radiation therapy today had a scuffle with the police on their way to gherao the residence of Odisha Health and family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena.
The agitating students who are on stir since last 20 days marched in a procession led by activists of Chhatra Congress, the student wing of the Congress party to the residence of the Health Minister.
The scuffle took place when the Police stopped them near Rajmahal square in the heart of the city here and prevented them to proceed to the residence of Mr.Jena.
The agitated student burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister Pratap Jena in protest against the faulty health care services and anti-people policies of the government.
Former Chhatra Congres president Itish Pradhan who led the agitation alleged that although many posts were lying vacant in hospitals several educated eligible youths are being deprived of jobs.
The students were demanding among other things creation of more employment opportunities, filling up of posts lying vacant in various hospitals and to cancel the 2018-19 annual course of DMRT and DMLT.
The police rounded up several DMLT and DMRT students from the spot.
Mr Pradhan while condemning the police action, announced that the Chhatra Congress activists will gherao the residence the Chief minister if the demands were not fulfilled in one week.
