    No plan for New NIPERS in the country: Minister informs parliament

    New Delhi: No new NIPERs are going to open in the coming years, Shri DV Sananada Gowda, Minister of Chemical and Fertilizer Ministry recently informed the Parliament.

    Through a written reply, he informed that the ministry of Chemical and Fertilizer has dropped the idea of setting up three new NIPERs in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh after the evaluation of NITI AYOG and the recommendation of Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) in thematter.

    National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) are national level institutes in Pharmaceutical sciences that have been set up by the government with an aim of becoming centres of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences.

    Presently, seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) are functioning in Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mohali, and Raebareli. During the year 2015-16, the Government did propose to set up three more NIPERs – one each in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

    In the recent session of Lok Sabha, MP Shri Manoj Kotak questioned the Ministry of Chemical and Fertiliser regarding the setting up of new NIPERs.

    He specificially questioned " whether the Government proposes to set up National Institute of pharmaceutical education and Research (NIPER) in the State of Maharashtra, if so, the details thereof"

    Responding to the questions, the minster inormed that Presently, seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) are functioning in various parts of the country. During the year 2015-16, the Government did propose to set up three more NIPERs – one each in the States of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

    However, on the question of new NIPERS he informed that government is going to defer the plain of opening new NIPERs

    " The NITI Aayog, after conducting evaluation of the existing NIPERs, has recommended for consolidation of the existing Institutes rather than setting up new NIPERs. Subsequently, the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) in its meeting held on 26.03.2018 has also recommended for deferring the setting up of the proposed new NIPERs. As such, the Government is not proposing to open up any new NIPER at this juncture," he stated
