New foot over bridge inaugurated at Armed Forces Medical College
Pune: Lieutenant General D R Soni, General OfficerCommanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, on Friday inaugurated the foot over bridge (FOB) from Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) to General Parade Ground, in presence of Major General Madhuri Kanitkar, Dean and Deputy Commandant, AFMC.
A release issued by Defence PRO stated that the FOB was a long-felt requirement of the College since AFMC did not have adequate grounds and facilities in-house to conduct training activities, sporting events and inter-collegiate tournaments.
Headquarter Southern Command allotted the land for developing sports infrastructure and accordingly hockey and cricket grounds were developed by AFMC, with the support of Bombay Engineer Group & Centre Kirkee, inside General Parade Ground.
However, uses of the facilities were restricted due to the inherent dangers of crossing the busy accident-prone Pune-Solapur road on NH-17, the release said.
The Army Commander accorded approval for construction of the FOB inMay and the construction was completed in record time of two and half months to enable connectivity from AFMC to the Training Area inside General Parade Ground. The FOB, aptly named Kilroy, as an attribute to the indomitable spirit of AFMC, will be a boon for the medical cadets, allowing them to use sporting facilities inside the parade ground, it added.
