New Delhi: AIIMS sets aside out-patient clinical charges below Rs 500 to overcome denomination shortfall

New Delhi:The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in an order dated 9^th November, 2017 has exempted all walk in patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences of the charge of Rs.10/- for the OPD card on November 10 and 11. It has further set aside billing charges below Rs. 500/-for all clinical services rendered.

This has been done to combat the liquidity shortages of lower denominations at the institute, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetization move of Rs 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.

Meanwhile, several hospitals found it difficult to manage the footfall on their premises , as well as the denomination shortfall. The ban did lead to a chaotic situation in hospitals. Patients complained of hospitals refusing to accept Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes as part of hospital bill payments..
