MP:MP high court stays reservation in NRI seats
Jabalpur: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has put a stay on the state government’s regulation on provision for reservation in the Non Resident Indian (NRI), quota for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in private medical and dental colleges till further orders.
The regulation by the government allowing reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes in the NRI quota was issued on August 27.
The MP High Court’s decision was challenged by the Association of Private Dental and Medical Colleges of (APDMC) MP and the Chirayu Charitable Foundation.
According to senior counsels Vivek Tankha, Ajay Gupta and Amalpushp Shroti, who appeared for the petioners the state had no authority to create any reservation in the NRI quota, as the law had no provisions for it.
Gupta reiterated that 15 seats were reserved for the NRI’s for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the private medical and dental colleges.
The High Court issued notices regarding the same to the State Government, the Director of Medical Education and the admission and fees regulatory committee.
