MP: Medical Colleges get more freedom to recruit medical faculties

MP: Medical Colleges get more freedom to recruit medical faculties

Indore: As part of the latest development on the recruitment of faculty for Medical Colleges, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC) and the Government College of Dentistry’s Executive Council at a meeting on Saturday has officially accepted the Model Service Rule 2018, framed by the state government, to cope with the problem of faculty shortage

According to him, acceptance of rules means medical colleges in the state will no longer have to wait for the public service commission exam for recruiting faculty in the colleges, as they will now be able to directly recruit associate professors and professors. The selection process, says this rule, would be conducted by a four-member committee consisting of a divisional commissioner, dean and two professors.

The committee will also be responsible for the promotion of faculty as per requirement. However, recruitment priority would lie with new medical colleges which are going to be initiated in Shivpuri, Vidisha, Shahdol, Ratlam, Khandwa, and Datia, he said.

“In the meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Sanjay Dubey and in presence of all the head of the departments (HoDs), we have accepted the new service rules and will start the process for filling up vacant posts soon,” Dean, MGMMC Dr Sharad Thora stated.

“The committee can also take services of retired professors for one to three years but they will have to follow the process of recruitment and priority would be given to the current faculties. Faculties, who do not come under the autonomous body, will work on deputation by the state government in the autonomous body,” said a senior professor of the college to the Free Press Journal.

Chief Secretary, Medical Education Department, Radheshyam Julania on January 11 during a video conferencing directed Divisional Commissioners and Deans to pass the resolution by conducting a meeting of the Divisional Autonomous Committees by January 31.

MGM Medical College has as many as 26 seats of assistant professors, associate professors and professors lying vacant adds the daily.
