More State medical exams cancelled post NEET order

While different state governments were waiting in anticipation for the Supreme Court’s decision on NEET and holding sate common medical entrance tests, the verdict from the apex court has left them with no-face situation. The decision has not been in their favour, leading to a scenario of many state-level exams being cancelled or failing to gain legal recognition (after having been conducted on their scheduled dates).

These students will now have a second chance to clear the NEET, as the SC has allowed students to re-appear in NEET-phase II. In other words, students who have appeared for NEET Phase I or state CET’s now have one more lifeline-for securing medical college admissions this academic year.

It may be noted that the cancelled list of exams includes some prominent names like AP EAMCET, which even went ahead in conducting the exam, in anticipation of the final decision by the apex court later. However, it now stands invalid, putting students in a lurch. This is in spite of the fact that Prof T Papi Reddy, chairman, Telangana State Council of Higher Education, had implied clearly in his statement that though they welcome the SC’s decision to hold a single entrance exam, the NEET rule does not apply to Telangana and AP, as both are exempted under Article 371 (D).

MHCET, which saw participation from more than 4 lakh medical aspirants also stands canceled now.
