MHCET first merit list display postponed to July 13

Maharashtra : MHCET merit list will now be announced on July 13. Earlier it was scheduled to be announced on July 6 and has now been delayed by a week. The decision by the Bombay HC is being followed by many medical aspirants in the state very closely.

The merit list of the recently conducted Common Entrance Test (CET) of MBBS in Maharashtra would be displayed on July 13, said acting advocate general Rohit Deo to the

media.

A petition was filed in the HC by few students who challenged in the court that policy that CET scores cannot be used for admission in private medical colleges. They have however not presented any challenge to CET.

Mihir Desai, counsel for the students implied that the state government has only provided the CET gateway for admission in government medical schools. Students have objected to not applying CET scores for medical admissions in private medical colleges in the state.

During the course of hearing on Centre’s ordinance on Neet, by making amendments to MCI and delay Neet by a year by the apex court; the Bombay HC deferred the hearing on student’s petition to July 13. SC is likely to hear the matter on July 4. The petition is an exemption to the view of Neet ordinance which says that state CET’s can conduct their own examination for medical admissions in the state medical colleges.

Seems like there is another anxious wait for the students. Earlier, it was an anxious wait for over 950 medical aspirants who appeared for MHCET was put to rest after they were granted extra marks under the sports and NCC based quota. This extra merit to students is given on basis of excelling in sports, participating in any kind of activity conducted by the National Cadet Corps Candidates, candidates who are off-springs of freedom fighters, or if their parents have participated in the Hyderabad & Goa liberation movements. Students falling under these categories are granted 1%.
