Medical intern under treatment for psychiatric disorder leaps to death
MUMBAI: Death came to 29 years old, Triratan Wathore, a medical intern three days after jumping out of the hospital building, he was admitted to. Wathore was being treated at the coronary care unit (CCU) of JJ Hospital.
29-year-old Wathore suffering from mental illnesses had been undergoing treatment for them for the past three years. Apart from depression, Wathore also suffered from alcohol and drug abuse.
An earlier suicidal attempt by him was made on April 26, when he jumped from the RM Bhatt hostel and was found lying unconscious on the ground floor.
Wathore, a final year MBBS student, died due to a brain hemorrhage. A report in the Indian Express quoted senior police inspector of JJ police station, Shirish Gaikwad, as saying, "We have also recorded the statement of his parents. He was into drug abuse. In their statement, his parents said he had undergone psychiatric sessions four times in the past. They do not suspect any foul play. This was not the first time their son tried to commit suicide."
Wahore is believed to have failed his final exam four times say, classmates. The IE report also quotes medical superintendent Dr Sanjay Surase as having said "We also checked with other students in his class to ensure nobody else is suffering from depression. He had been under counselling for a very long time.” A case of accidental death has been registered by the police, reports midday.com.
