Medical College Assitant Prof arrested on molestation charges

Thrissur: Habeeb Muhammed, an assistant professor of a government medical college, Thrissur was arrested on wednesday based on a molestation complaint by a second year MBBS student, police said.

The accused is an assistant professor with the Government Medical College and Hospital, they said.

The student in her complaint to the college’s principal had stated that the accused allegedly attempted to molest her inside an operation theater. She stated that the AP held her hand and made indecent remarks against her. TOI states that seven other students, including four girls have also complained against the indecent behaviour of the assistant professor.

MBBS students staged a protest on the college campus demanding that Dr Muhammed be taken out of service.

With the arrest, the medical college authorities immediately called for an emergency meeting and shifted the students to various other surgery training units. The committee has also asked the head of the department of the surgery department to conduct a probe and prepare a report, Dr Pushpalatha, the acting principal said.
