MCI raises 10 objections to GMC Amritsar

Amritsar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) that inspected the Government Medical College,(GMC) Amritsar after having granted it 50 additional seats has raised 10 objections including that of staff shortage.

The Principal, Dr BS Bal, told the HT , “I will be going to New Delhi on the 22nd of this month to respond to the 10 objections.”

“The team has shown 11.4% of staff shortage. The staff is less due to process of departmental promotion. Recruitment for new posts was also stopped due to imposition of the poll code of conduct. I am sure this can be improved,” he added.

The Four member MCI team led by Dr. BB Mathur that visited the college in October has objected to the non-computerized out-patient department (OPD) and the cramped lecture rooms too.

The MCI which is empowered to cancel these additional 50 seats, will be visiting the college for the next three years to inspect the facilities being provided by the college in the smooth running of the course with these additional 50 seats.
