MCI PG Diploma Conversion: 276 MD,MS seats added in 19 Maharashtra medical colleges
Mumbai: With the nod of the apex Medical Council of India (MCI), a total of 276 seats are going to augment the Post-Graduate (PG) medical degree pool of Maharashtra state.
Following the announcement by the Medical Council of India Board of Governors (MCI BoG) with regard to increasing of seats in PG degree courses in lieu of surrender or concerned diploma seats, the majority of the states rushed at the opportunity to get additional PG degree seats.

Maharashtra had surrendered for a total of 283 PG Diploma Seats for the conversion. Of the 283, 276 seats have been converted by the MCI.
19 medical colleges from the state had applied for the conversion to PG degree seats in various specialities:

The maximum number of seats are converted in the speciality of Anaesthesiology. While 18 were applied by Seth G.S Medical College & King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and all are converted from PG Diploma to Degree, Grant Government Medical College Group of Hospital, J. J. Hospital applied for 11 Diploma seats for the conversion to PG degree in Anaesthesiology.
Out of all the 19 medical colleges, only 2 medical colleges didn't succeed in getting the apex medical council's approval for the PG Diploma Conversion.
While Grant Government Medical College Group of Hospital, JJ Hospital applied for 9 Child Health Diploma seats for the conversion, it got MCI's nod for only 3. B.J. Government Medical College & Sassoon General Hospital had submitted 2 Diploma seats in Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases and got only 1 converted.
