MCI: Medical college teachers to show up by 9:30 am

Nagpur: The Medical Council of India has made it mandatory for teachers in medical colleges to be present in colleges between 9.30 and 10 am. Teachers are meant to set examples and it is often observed that they are emulated for their good habits and acts.

Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dean, Dr A Niswade, said this was being done to instill discipline among teachers who usually come late to college. “The new system will ensure that they use biometric system and swipe their cards to mark their attendance on time,” he added. Those who don’t will be marked absent for the day.
However, there is no limit set on the number of hours they should be present in college.

  1. Hospitals should have a corporate culture as a all or none phenomenon. i.e. Prescribed times/ shifts of work + Overtime at double rate beyond those times. Applicable to all without exception – yes even house-surgeons. At present only early arrival and late departure are enforced without monetary compensation for the actual hours worked, both in private and public hospitals.

  2. Quality not Quantity is important

Despite irregularities by the Faculty members the Dean has decided to bring in discipline after a deep slumber. But for MCI visit He wouldn\’t have bothered to Act. Men could be mean unlike the Machines, The Dean should have introduced the Biometrics as done in even the primary schools despite repeated reminders by None other than Prime Minister Mr Modi to digitalize the system all over the Nation. This being the constituency /hometown of the Chief Minister of the state it should set an example for not only the state of Maharashtra but also the whole country. I don\’t understand his tolerance/ negligence for not INITIATING DISCIPLINARY action against the repeated Offenders. ( Those being either in to private practice or being close to the Politicians). It is meaning less to serve notice or issue press note , better if He initiate disciplinary action against the errants. ACTIONS Speak BETTER than the words.
