MCI inspection at MGM Medical College Indore for increment of PG Pharmacology seats

Indore: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGM Medical College) in the city was recently inspected by the Medical Council of India team for reviewing the infrastructure required for increasing seats in MD Pharmacology course. The college is planning to add 9 more seats if all goes well.

This time Medical Council of India (MCI) team visited the campus on 2 January 2020.

The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC), Indore is one of the oldest and the most prestigious educational institutions of the state. MGM Medical College (MGMMC), Indore was established in 1948.

Currently the medical college only offers on seat for the said course. The MCI inspected the pharmacology department of the medical college and also take note of the college’s infrastructure.

“At present, the college has one post-graduate seat in the pharmacology department. There will be 10 seats after getting approval for nine more seats,” acting Dean Dr KK Arora informed

He further added that they have applied for an increase in PG seats in different departments including 35 seats in anaesthesia, gynaecology, and other departments. The college has got permission for increasing 57 seats in various department in 2019.

"The college has sent the proposal of increasing 169 PG seats in the college out of which 57 seats have already been approved and rest will be increased in the second phase of the increment,” he said

This is the second inspection that the medical college underwent in the past 10 days. The first inspection was regarding the increment of 100 UG seats.

The inspections are also coming at a time when the state is witnessing severe crisis on the medical teaching front as teachers are collectively submitting their mass resignations to their respective department heads. Medical dialogues have recently reported that with their demands being continually neglected by the state government, medical faculty of Madhya Pradesh based medical colleges are slowly submitting their en-masse resignations dated 9 January 2020. to the deans of their respective medical colleges.
