MCI, health Ministry finally give nod to Chintpurni Medical College student shift
New Delhi: The week-long protest by the 249 students of the now-defunct Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital has ended in the Oversight Committee(OC) of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Union Health Ministry giving their nod to the student shift to other medical colleges of the state.
All the 249 students of the medical college will be called for counselling to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, on December 18 by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS)
"The counselling process has been started as per the directions of the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER)," Registrar, BFUHS, Dr. SP Singh told the Tribune.
President of the Chintpurni Medical College Parents' Association, Dr. Sushil Garg revealed that soon after the OC gave its consent, the Union Health Ministry also gave its nod to the shift, as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The students staged a protest outside the Medical Council the past week demanding speedy approval for their shifting by the OC and the Union Health Ministry, after the High Court ordered the same on September, 8 followed by a council nod on Nov 22.
The 2014 batch of 101 students are to be shifted to 3 government colleges of the state, the 148 students of the 2016 batch will be shifted to both government and private colleges as per their allotment on quota seats in Chintpurni college.
In a story done by Medical Dialogues team, earlier, the Chintpurni Medical College students were still waiting for the government to shift them to the promised new destination colleges. Chintpurni had stopped taking classes completely a month ago, however, clarity on the promised future shift was yet to surface, leaving students at the receiving end.
The deadline set by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for shifting of Chintpurni students had expired on November 8.
A protest demonstration by the Chintpurni Medical College students and their parents was organized outside the apex education regulator's(MCI) office in New Delhi, earlier this month
