    MCI BOG approves new course-MCh in Paediatric Orthopaedics

    New Delhi: Medical institutes across India are soon going to offer a new Super Speciality Course in Paediatric Orthopaedics as the Medical Council of India Board of Governors has given its go-ahead to the inclusion of a new qualification- M.Ch. (Paediatric Orthopaedics) in the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000


    The decision was taken in a Medical Council of India Board of Governor's meeting which was held in December 2018. The apex medical council gave its nod for the introduction of MCh (Paediatric Orthopaedics). The prior requirement or feeder qualification for MCh Paediatric Orthopaedics will be MS in Orthopaedics.

    The MCI Board of Governors, while reaching its verdict on the inclusion of MCh in Paediatric Orthopaedics; noted,




    "The Under Secretary to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi vide letter NoV.11012/03/2017 -MEP, dated 13.09.2018 requested to the Council to furnish three copies of the draft amendment notification both in Hindi and English for the inclusion of M.Ch. (Paediatric Orthopaedics) in the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000 at the earliest to this Ministry for authentication."


    The Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations of erstwhile Medical Council of India with the approval of the Oversight Committee had proposed the MCh Paediatric Orthopaedics in Schedule II of the PGMER, clause D under the heading of MCh (Master of Chirurgie) the following shall be added after M.Ch.(Reproductive Medicine & Surgery):

    In its decision, the MCI BoG approved the draft amendment notification for SS Course Paediatric Orthopaedics.
