    MBBS Scam in Mumbai: 3 booked for cheating 20 people of Rs 57.5 lakh

    NAVI MUMBAI: In yet another case of MBBS fraud, 3 conmen have been booked by the police on the basis of the complaint filed by over 20 people alleging that the trio had promised MBBS seats for their wards. As per the investigation, the accused had allegedly cheated the parents of total Rs 57.5 lakh.

    The matter came to light after a Mumbai based parent of an MBBS aspirant approached the police with the complaint alleging that 3 directors of an educational management institution had duped him of Rs 3 lakh.

    As per the complaint, the parent had received a message from one firm named Aspire Study India regarding the MBBS admission. He contacted the firm paid a visit to the premises and met the three, who had introduced themselves as the directors of the firm.

    Under the pretext of providing MBBS admission for his daughter at Dr Ulhas Patil medical college, they described the fee structure to him in the meeting. He was told that the four and a half year MBBS course would cost 10 lakh. He was asked to pay 3 lakh to the firm in advance for arranging the MBBS seat and 1.35 lakh after allotment of the seat. Rs 5.65 lakh was to be paid via demand draft to college in which the seat would be secured.

    He transferred 3 lakh to their bank account. After receiving the payment, they said that they are fixing his meeting with the director at medical college, Jalgaon on 9 September. Two days before the meeting he tried calling the accused but their numbers were switched off. Afterwards, he approached the police for help.

    Subsequently, an investigation was initiated wherein it was found that the accused had duped 20 people in Navi Mumbai by promising MBBS seats to them for their children.

    “Twenty complaints have been registered against the fraudsters regarding the same and the accused have not been arrested yet,” said Satish Nikam, senior inspector at APMC police station to Hindustan Times.
