MBBS admissions: Plea to HC for weightage for Plus 2 marks
Chennai: The Madras High Court sought the Medical Council of India's stand on a plea for factoring in both the NEET and the higher secondary examination marks of students for admitting them to the MBBS course in the state.
A vacation bench of justices N Kirubakaran and V Parthiban sought the stands of MCI and other respondents, issuing them notices for tomorrow, when the matter will again come up for the hearing.
The plea to take into account the marks of both the 'plus 2' and the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test for the admission to the under-graduate medical courses in the state was made to the court by Dr P Ramachandran of Kattumannarkoil in Cuddalore district.
Petitioner Ramachandran said the clause V of the MCI's notification dated December 21, 2010 had said all admissions shall be made solely on the basis of the marks secured in the NEET.
The petitioner prayed for a direction to the MCI to modify this in the interest of the students coming from backward states like Tamil Nadu.
