MBBS Admissions in Tamil Nadu: Management quota seat counselling begins
Chennai: The counselling for MBBS/BDS admission for 516 management quota seats in self-financing colleges including Vellore-based Christian Medical College by the state health department will commence for two days beginning 30th July 2018.
The Christian Medical College which shall be participating for the first time in the state's single window counselling where admissions will be based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET) scores, will admit only 12 students in the open category and reserve 84 for those referred by a network of churches. It will also take in three students from the SC/ST category. Other colleges have surrendered 35% to 50% of their seats to the state colleges.
Meanwhile, the dates of the 2nd round of counselling by the Directorate General of Health Services(DGHS) are yet to be announced. However, the Directorate has asked students to keep traversing its web pages for the latest updates. Counselling has stayed after the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court asked the CBSE to award all students who appeared for the NEET exam in Tamil, a grace mark of 196 after it found that 49 questions were either wrong or unclear. Before a stay was imposed by the apex court, another court in Nagpur ordered a stay.
The State Selection Committee, Secretary, Dr G Selvarajan said the rescheduling of the second phase of counselling would be announced only after the DGHS returns the all-India quota vacant seats in government colleges. "We filled all government quota seats in round 1," he told TOI.
