Maharashtra: Man arrested for stalking female medical student

Pune: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in an unusual case of harassment has arrested a 65 year old man for stalking a medical student and passing lewd comments at her and sometimes even her accompanying friends.

Retired, the accused has a married son and daughter . During the course of interrogation the man revealed travelling on local trains was his past time, as he lives alone at home.

It is believed the 26 year medical student had become his regular target, despite her having rebuked him for stalking her and her friends regularly- of late. Having had enough of it, as she was becoming a regular target, the girl finally lodged a complaint with the GRP, Pune.

Inspector, Sanjay Satav and his team took the man into custody on Wednesday. Arrested on charges of stalking, his charge sheet was sent to court within 24 hours of his arrest.

Himmat Mane-Patil, Assistant inspector of GRP, Pune said, the accused, was a resident of Kasarwadi. "While pretending to talk on his phone, the suspect stalked passengers between Lonavla and Pune," Patil told the TOI

"She travels by local train. The man used to follow here and her friends every day, while travelling," Mane-Patil added.

"We have submitted the charge sheet in the court. Our probe is on," Mane-Patil said.
