Madurai Medical College: Foundation Stone for new buildings laid
Madurai: Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju and Madurai North MLA VV Rajan Chellappa recently laid the foundation stone ceremony for the construction of new buildings at a cost of Rs 37.25 crore inside Madurai Medical College premises.
The ceremony held on 14th December, also witnessed the presence of Collector S Natarajan and Dr Shanmugasundaram, Dean Madurai Medical College and Government Rajaji Hospital.
Two buildings will be constructed on the Madurai medical college premises. “One is a seven-storey building with facilities to accommodate classrooms and other infrastructure needed for six departments in the college. The other building, which will have four floors, will be residential quarters for non-teaching staff at the medical college,” Dean Dr S Shanmugasundaram confirmed to The Hindu while sharing the details of the foundation stone ceremony.
It has been reported that many projects are underway at the Madurai Medical College and Government Rajaji Hospital. These projects include an Operation Theatre (OT) complex supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Super-Speciality (SS) Block under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), and a new building to host Paediatric and other departments, are underway in various stages.
The projects have also faced criticism for prolonged delays in completion, adds the daily.
