Madras Medical College Denied Seat increase in MD Radio Diagnosis course
Madras Medical College has been denied the permission by the Medical Council Of India for seat increment in MD Radio Diagnosis for the academic year 2017-18. One of the reasons cited for the refusal included the retrospective changes in the assessment reports of the senior residents, which is certainly not allowed.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, MCI noted the Compliance Verification Assessment Report (5th January 2017) along with the Council Assessor’s Report (07th September 2016) and compliance dated 29th November 2016 submitted by the college authorities on the physical and other teaching facilities available at Madras Medical College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai for Increase of seats in MD (Radio Diagnosis) course u/s 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 for the academic year 2017-18.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee considered the Compliance Verification Assessment Report (5th January 2017) along with the Council Assessor’s Report (07th September 2016) and compliance dated 29th November 2016 submitted by the college authorities and noted that the college principal has made retrospective changes in the assessment reports of the senior residents to make them appear as eligible are not permissible. Hence they cannot be considered.
In view of the reason, "the Postgraduate Medical Education Committee decided to return the application to the Central Government recommending disapproval of the scheme for Increase of seats in MD (Radio Diagnosis) course at Madras Medical College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai u/s 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 for the academic year 2017-18."
The Committee further decided to refer the matter before Ethics Committee.
