Lucknow: First year student of Sardar Patel Dental College ends life

Uttar Pradesh: A first year student of Sardar Patel Dental College committed suicide in her hostel room. She was pursuing a Masters in Dental Surgery, and was in her first year. Her body was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her hostel room, on Monday evening.

Prerna Chowdhary (29), the victim was accommodated at the girls' hostel of Sardar Patel Dental College; her native city being Allahabad.

The initial investigations on the matter have not revealed the exact reason for suicide . Police is waiting for her family to arrive from Allahabad and comprehend more details on the case. There has been no suicide note left behind by the girl. Even her phone records have failed to provide any clues to the police. She was last seen in the hospital building on Sunday evening.

The matter was brought to light after Prerna’s elder brother’s failed to establish contact with her sister on her mobile, despite repeated attempts. He then contacted the hostel’s caretaker to check on Prerna.

As reported by TOI, caretaker Ishita Mishra found her body suspended from the ceiling fan. PGI police was informed and during the post investigation inquiry found that Prerna had left the hostel on Saturday for Allahabad but came back within two hours.

Officer-in-charge of PGI police station said it appeared that Prerna ended her life on Sunday night. Having lost her father, Prerna has a brother who is an advocate. Police are waiting for her family members to reach the city.
