Kolkata: SSKM Hospital gets Online OPD Ticketing system, soon at other medical colleges
Kolkata: The State Health Department has launched online ticket booking for patients visiting Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) of the medical college hospitals in Kolkata in order to simplify the registration process and reduce the long queues of patients at government hospitals.
This system has already been introduced at the State's top multi-speciality hospital, SSKM Hospital and would soon be replicated at the other medical colleges. The tickets can be booked seven days prior to the date of the visit at the medical college and hospital.
The process of booking an OPD online is simple. A patient who wants to consult a doctor in a particular hospital department needs to visit the Health Department website (hyperlink www.wbhealth.gov.in) and continue into the 'OPD Ticket Booking' section under 'E-Governance' or go directly to the page, Online Ticket Booking System.

The ticketing system would work like this – There would be special counters at the hospitals where the tickets bought online can be scanned. After that, the patients would be given 'entry numbers', which they would have to show the doctor they are visiting.
The numbers would be assigned automatically in coordination with those of the patients who have bought tickets from the offline counters.
For example, if an offline ticket-holder is assigned the number 10 during 'entry', a patient scanning an online ticket at that moment would be assigned the number, 11.
