Kolkata Medical College: Medical Intern accused medical student of rape

Kolkata: A complaint has been received at Tala police station, where a medical intern of a government-run medical college has accused a medical student of another medical college of raping her. The female medico has also alleged that the accused took money from her and kept her under the promises of marriage.

As per a report by Millennium Post, the police have registered a case of IPC sections 376 (Rape) and 417 (Cheating) against the accused medical student, who is currently absconding.

The female medico met the accused in 2017 during her medical college fest. Later, the medical student invited her, along with her friends, to a similar event at his medical college campus, which they attended. Their relationship grew thereafter.

The medico stated that the accused used to visit her medical college often, after her visit to his college fest. After some time in the relationship, the medical student proposed to marry her, to which she agreed.

A few months later, the student asked the medico to lend him some money. Without hesitation, the medico transferred Rs 34,000 through e-wallet.

According to her complaint; on October 8, this year, the accused had invited her to a hotel to have lunch. When she reached the hotel, they had lunch in a hotel room.

Later, the accused allegedly gave her a glass of juice to drink that contained alcohol or some hallucinating substance. After that he raped her, the complainant medico alleged. Last month, she came to know that she has become pregnant. During this time, the accused once again took around Rs 34,000 from her.

The medico alleged that when she informed the accused about the pregnancy, he refused to marry her and stopped all sorts of communication, reports Millennium Post.

According to a previous judgment of Delhi high court, “entering into a sexual relationship with a woman after making her a false promise of marriage amounts to rape.”
