KGMU trauma centre to waive off fee for the initial diagnosis period
Lucknow: The King George’s Medical University has decided to waive off admission charges at the trauma center, to facilitate immediate treatment for patients, without having to wait for depositing a fee of Rs. 350 stated hospital authorities.
Dr Sudhir Singh, KGMU’s co-faculty in charge of the media cell informed the same would not be the case for patients seeking admission via OPD, as would continue to pay an admission fee, prior to being given treatment.
With a footfall of over 300 patients, every day (24 hours) and about half taken in as admissions at the Trauma Center, a crisis develops, if the number of patients increases at a particular time.
As per the new change introduced, the fee will be taken from a patient once, he or she has shifted to the wards/department. This has been done keeping in mind patient stability and the family getting adequate time to deposit the fee, reported HT.
The next administrative change likely to happen will be - free treatment for the first 24 hours. However, it shall only be initiated, once the government provides a budget for it. The first 24 hours free treatment calls for expenditure on medicines and diagnostic facilities.
