Speedy completion of Kasaragod Government Medical College sought

KASARAGOD: The persistent delay in the commencement of work on the hospital block of Kasaragod Government Medical College near Badiadukka, has egged the hospital action committee to plan an agitation to hasten the job.

The Samara Samithi plans to hold an emergency meeting in this regard on November 19, at 3 p.m. at Ukkinadukka, the site of the proposed college . The meeting will strategize ways of intensifying the agitation, said Mr. Kelot, urging attendance.

The samithi also sent a delegation to the State capital city after the new Left Democratic Front government came to power in May and held discussions with the Finance and Health Ministers. The Ministers have promised steps to speed up the work on the hospital block, Mr. Kelot said.

Though the construction of the academic block is taking place at a smooth pace, the hospital block construction has been pending despite the work having been accorded to a Hyderabad-based construction company in January this year, said Chairman

Rs. 68 crore was assigned to the hospital project by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)in December 2015, however the authorities continue to maintain a laid back attitude to it reports Hindu.

Established 32 years ago, the district is yet to see a single medical college hospital having come up. People of the state continue to visit hospitals in Mangaluru and the Pariyaram Medical College hospital for specialist treatment, especially for endosulfan ( the killer pesticide) induced health hazards which a large portion of the population is struggling with.
