Kerala: Malabar Medical College readmits its 33 expelled students
Kozhikode: The 33 expelled students of Malabar Medical College, Modakkallur have been readmitted by the college. The college had earlier expelled the students as they had failed to produce the bank guarantees asked for within 15 days of having been given admission.
The readmitted students are all Ist year MBBS students. The college's decision to readmit them came after the student's union-led protest marches to the college. The classes commenced on September 11. A fixed deposit of Rs 6 lakh has to be made for securing a bank guarantee or a property equivalent to the amount has to be pledged, or a copy of the title deed of the property belonging to a third party has to be given as security.
Speaking about bank guarantees, parents were of the view that the conditions laid down for their procurement, was giving them a difficult time.
The parents have also alleged for having been asked for blank cheques for the fee to be remitted for the coming years. The Rajendra Babu Committee, however, had said that asking for blank cheques for future year payments, would come under capitation fee, reports Mathrubhumi.
