Kerala : Infrastructural construction at GMC Idukki to begin
Kerala: KK Shylaja, Health Minister on Friday announced that infrastructural construction of both the administrative block and the additional hospital block of the Government Medical College, Idukki would begin soon. She also revealed that the design of the additional hospital block was being examined by the technical university.
Ms. Shylaja however, alleged that the admission to the second batch by the previous government was done without providing basic facilities.
The Union government gave admission consent for students to GMC, Idukki, after the MCI was promised that basic facilities as per their guidelines would be met with in the college, by the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.
According to the Health Minister, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government was committed to retaining the medical college, and that all infrastructure as per the MCI guidelines would be ready soon.
Meanwhile, the UDF Coordination Committee were on a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district on Saturday, alleging that the LDF government was trying to do away with the medical college; a dream project of the people. A.Ashokan, UDF convener said the day long hartal was meant to be conducted peacefully.
