Kerala: Four self financing medical colleges declined admission approval by Health Ministry

Thiruvanathapuram: A 550 seat shortfall is to be witnessed in the state this year with the Ministry of Health declining admission permission to the following state colleges:

  • Adoor Mount Zion medical college
  • Al-Azhar medical college
  • Wayanad DM Medical College
  • Thodupuzha Kerala Medical College

The Medical Council of India (MCI), has declined admission to these colleges after deficiencies were detected during inspections conducted. Following the Council rejection, the colleges approached the court and also the Supreme Court deputed Monitoring Committee.

Subsequently, on Court directive, the Council re-inspected at some colleges. however,  declined to give them permission.

Approving the MCI stand, the Union Health Ministry issued an admission disapproval order.

The Kerala Medical College has also been restrained from admitting students for the year 2018-19 reports Mathrubhumi.
