Kasturba Medical College signs MOU with Ethiopian medical college in the field of Forensic Medicine
MANGALURU: A memorandum of agreement(MOU) has been signed between St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) recently for enhancement of intellectual and research capacity in the field of forensics.
This is the third to be signed by the Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC, Mangaluru after the one earlier with Lyon University, France and Mekelle University, Ethiopia.
Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty Department of Forensic Medicine said the objective behind it was to encourage constant engagement in the field of research between all who have mutually agreed upon this collaboration.
The areas of cooperation include:
- initiation of an Exchange Fellowship and Training program for Residents in Forensic Medicine, with practical knowledge about the intricacies of Forensic pathology;
- Exchange of academic personnel; Cooperative development activities; Cooperative design of courses, conferences, symposia or academic programmes and Exchange of academic or scientific materials and publications of common interest.
The MoU envisions building and maintenance of an updated knowledge database in the field of forensics both in India and Ethiopia and to help Ethiopia build a premier centre in the field of forensics. The MoU proposes to enhance St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College ’s working capacity and build its enabling capacities reported TOI.
Prof Balkachew Nigatu, Program Director, Dr. Enyew Debash Assistant Professor of Ob-Gyn and Forensic Head and Specialist of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of St. Paul Millennium, stated that the MoU will contribute to improving the training content on Criminology, Odontology, toxicology, Pathology, and also strengthen the structured approach in the field of Forensic Sciences. The agreement will also help in the formulation of various strategies to combat crime cases in Ethiopia.
The exchanged MOU is meant to lead the two Institutions towards an evolved learning process, mutually beneficial to both Institutions and encouragement towards the overall capacity building in Ethiopia.
The MoU meeting between the two was attended by, Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE, Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan, Director International Collaborations, MAHE, Dr M Venkataraya Prabhu, Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, Dr Alfred J. Augustine, Associate Dean (International Collaborations), KMC, Mangalore who was instrumental in making this collaboration possible and Dr. B Suresh Kumar Shetty, Dr Jagadish Rao PP from the Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC, Mangalore.
